I also want to familiarize our fellow high school students in the college application process. My goal is to make everybody feel confident and prepared for what's to come!
By now, high school Seniors should have already applied for their desired schools for Fall 2018. The deadlines for CSU & UCs were:
DEADLINE
CSU: October 1 - November 30, 2017
UC: November 1-30, 2017
*Private university deadlines vary in accordance with the school
*Admission decisions for UC’s begins March 1, 2018
Current juniors should start looking into which college they would like to attend after their high school career. A good way to figure out which college is best compatible is to explore the university’s website. I also want to promote involving yourself in a few different extra-curricular activities so you can discover what piques your interest and use that curiosity to touch up on a few potential majors.
There are three different outlets that allow students to apply:
This is the application for private schools like Chapman University, Occidental College, Pepperdine University, Pomona College, University of the Pacific and all eight Ivy League Schools (Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, University of Pennsylvania and Yale)
This is the application for the Universities of California (i.e. UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Los Angeles, UC Merced, UC Riverside, UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara, and UC Santa Cruz)
This is the application for California State Universities (i.e. Cal State Fullerton, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Cal State Long Beach, San Diego State University, San Francisco State University, etc.)
Make a student portfolio to each of these links and utilize the site to your full advantage. Browse through the application questions and secure an idea you will want to talk about for your Personal Statement. You will want to take your time with this and proofread it countless of times! We offer college counseling that allows us to proofread your personal statement and help you get through the application process. I encourage you all to start now and ask for help from our instructors.
I also want you guys to remember that each school has a variance of what major they specialize in. Just because the name of the school isn’t as prestigious as the other, it shouldn’t be your deciding factor! If they have nothing to offer for your major, don’t be let down. You want to attend a university that can release your potential success.
